We acknowledge that each child’s life journey is unique, and that support needs can vary from person to person. We respect each child as an individual with personal rights and the programs provided by Sovereign Star should create an environment which supports and encourages the potential of each child.
The centre’s programme is inspired by Te Whariki, Carl Orff’s approach (an approach for teaching music, dance, and drama and also children’s individual interest to create fun, meaningful and holistic learning experiences and RIE (For Nursery) and Reggio Reggio (a range of visual and expressive arts) for a whole nursery and preschool.
We believe in offering services and opportunities recognise and honour the whole person: body, mind, heart and spirit. We foster children’s development holistically through the nurturing of children’s physical, intellectual, language, emotional, and social skills, and recognising and respecting their spiritual beliefs.
At Sovereign Star, we strive to install in children a sense of self-worth and support the beginnings of a life conducive to healthy values through the daily routines, events, and experiences and we seen the child as an investigator, developing theories, and discovering a world of possibilities along the way.
During the day, well developed but flexible routines are in place, allowing for children’s work, to go uninterrupted during times of crucial learning. This also allows for children to acquire the skills needed to foster relationships, giving them the confidence they require to communicate their ideas and feelings through a variety of expressive outlets.
We believe that children learn through play. ‘Since the beginning of time, children have not liked to study. They would much rather play, and if you have their interests at heart you will let them learn while they play; they will find that what they have mastered is child’s play.’ ~~Carl Orff
We commit to work in partnership with children, families, teachers and communities to achieve learning potential. We prioritise the best interests of children, but also recognise that we must look at the best interests of families, community and staff in achieving the best interests of children.
We respect families as the primary carers of their children with the centre and our staff supporting families in caring for and educating their children. Sovereign Star recognises the value of open and trusting communication between the centre and the child’s home and family. The process of communication and consultation is important to us, because it is our priority to support parents/whanau in their role as primary caregivers.
Sovereign Star’s practice reflects our commitment to multi-culturalism in New Zealand by treating each child as unique, while providing equal opportunities regardless of race, ethnicity, culture, religion or gender.
We hold the values of respect, care, trust and commitment to be central to our value and believe in responsiveness to the family needs of our community. We foster in each child the values of respect and consideration of others.
We value the natural, safe, and spacious environment, both within the centre and in the wider community and we encourage children to respect and nurture the environment. We believe a learning environment that combines the warmth and nurturing of a home with the stimulus of an early childhood setting encourages optimal development of each child.
